Trying to get a DOA out of them is like banging your head on a brick wall. You have to go on line. So if a non technical newbe or older buyer who has no it skills has a problem the hotline info if useless. I am not even sure if this is UK/EU legal.

I'm afraid we don't have much influence on how Argos is managing their after sales service , however let us know if you would have further issues with their support and we'll assist with your case.

Does this apply to their MSi "Netbook" sales also? only I bought one yesterday and was specifically told at the point of sale that it was NOT covered by their 30day returns policy and that any faults should be directed towards the manufacturers warranty.

Have just been in contact with the argos service centre and they were very helpful. Should have a courier out tomorrow to pick up a broken msi wind. They said 5-7 working days for repair and return or brand new one if it can't be fixed.

Argos has some impressive service and we are working close with them all the time to implement the MSI policy so that the call centre can process MSI products smoothly. Please note that if your MSI - Argos unit is found faulty within 30 days of purchase you have to return it to your Argos shop for a swap or refund (choose swap please ;-)).

Is the argos warranty still 2 years, as offered with MSI for those purchased from other sources?

I have a MSI CR500.

Thanks,

John

Warranty period with MSI goods purchased from Argos is up to them, so please check with them before purchasing as they purchase goods from us without any MSI warranty; they have their own very experienced repair and call centre which carries out all warranty servicing.

If I had known that the Wind 130 I bought yesterday did not carry an MSI manufacturers warranty I would not have bought it. I have to ask if this is legal in this country.

That's not entirely correct and can be beneficial to you William: all Argos MSI units carry warranty, the only difference is that Argos is taking care of it instead of MSI. They have local repair and dedicated call centre ready to help with any warranty claim and their testing and repairs are as good, if not better than ours so you are covered. The huge benefit of having their own service is that when you purchase directly from them and let's say are not happy with the repairs you can ask for refund or replacement directly from Argos which due to our repair centre is in Holland and we do not sell directly to end users, gets bit more complicated in MSI UK case. However if you would like MSI to take care of the unit for example when Argos warranty runs out then we still can repair any unit outside ours or Argos warranty, this however is a chargeable service so you can rest assured that in either case, there will be someone to help you.

I recently bought a MSI CR610 from Argos and I noticed the fan was giving out alot of hot air and suspected it was the fumes that were giving me headaches. Do all these MSI CR610 laptop pump out alot of air from the fan through it's 1 vent? is this standardly normal for these MSI laptops?
because when I compair it next to a duel core dell inspiron I am noticing no gush of air being pumped out of the fan.

Thanks, daimler

Hi Daimler, we never had issue when the hot air would cause health concerns as it pumps out same air as intakes, just hotter, no worrying particles are being spread out via the thermal system. As worlds one of 5 top It manufacturers I can assure you that our notebooks pass rigorous tests to make them safe for everyday usage therefore they should not cause any nausea or headache. As for the hot air volume, please make sure the unit is kept on a flat surface, so that the intakes won't be blocked (for example your laps or duvet). If the unit still will be getting too hot or exhaling a lot of hot air then BIOS update might reduce the fan speed when not needed. If all fail please call Argos repair centre for a check to make sure that there's nothing wrong with it.

Hi MSI
re the advice on the fan thing - surely the clue is in the name - it's a LAPTOP. I already have a pc which sits on a flat surface. The point of a laptop is that it's portable and you can use it anywhere.
I have just purchased an x410 from argos and the fan runs all the time, making a noise which is very distracting and renders the built-in speakers useless. Can't hear anything over the noise of the fan. I would be reluctant to use this on a train because it would disturb everyone but the profoundly deaf. One would expect that the fan would at least keep the machine cool but it gets so hot on the left hand side vent that it is almost too hot to touch. And how much electricity must this be using?

Separate issue but very annoying - the machine won't play downloaded movies or tv programmes. I bought a movie from itunes store on friday [the day i bought the x410] and it just sticks all the time. I tried with a download from bbc iplayer and same problem.

And that's where the problem lies. MSI never called any of our portable products a 'Laptop', we call the Notebook, so the 'lap top' unofficial definition won't apply to our products, as suffocating any fan based cooling system by your jeans or duvet will cause problems sooner or later. As for the fan, in some early firmware (BIOS) versions the fan can be set to high, permanent speed, this is easily changed by a BIOS update, please go here:http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1875, give it a go and if still loud let us know, we'll tell developers to reduce the speed and provide new BIOS with this fix and to ship latest batches with this fix installed. It will be available from the same link once created. I myself am buying X400, once I'll have mine and have any similar issues I will update you on the solution but so far the units I had a plat with are quiet.

How do I add memory without affecting warranty? Unit was bought from Argos UK.
Thanks
Posted By: MSI UK On: 29 Mar 2010 11:56 AM
Please check with Argos, due to it will be them who will accept or reject upgraded unit, as Argos units after sales service, support or upgrades is not related to MSI rules, they carry their own warranty etc, so presumably only their upgrade procedures apply during warranty.
As for MSI upgrade rules on memory and HDD there are no restrictions unless you damaged the unit, here are the details: http://support.msi.eu/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=20&id=16&artlang=en&highlight=upgrade , however again please note that this DOES NOT apply to Argos units.
